 ow historical perspectives can help inform future 
 decision-making during a period of significant ind
 ustry transition.</p>\n \n <p>Bringing together ex
 pertise from both the water and gas sectors\, Jo a
 nd Russell will share reflections on how the indus
 tries have evolved\, the different paths they have
  taken\, and the enduring themes that continue to 
 shape infrastructure planning and investment today
 .</p>\n \n <p><strong>Jo Parker</strong> is a char
 tered civil engineer and has worked in the water i
 ndustry for 50 years. The first ever woman enginee
 r to work for Thames Water Authority (and possibly
  the water industry)\, she has held a variety of r
 oles with UK water companies including Operations 
 Director. She has also worked in other countries a
 s varied as Afghanistan and Australia.</p>\n \n <p
 >She was awarded the MBE by the late Queen in 1994
  for services to the water industry and was recogn
 ised as one of the top 50 women working in sustain
 ability in 2020.</p>\n \n <p>Jo currently works as
  an independent consultant specialising in the man
 agement of water networks and is recognised intern
 ationally as an expert in the field. She is the ou
 tgoing Vice-President Engineering of the Institute
  of Water and a former National Chair and area Pre
 sident. She is also an honorary member of the Pipe
 line Industries Guild and the Institute of Water.<
 /p>\n \n <p><strong>Russell Thomas</strong> is a r
 espected gas historian and Technical Director at W
 SP. He is widely recognised for his comprehensive 
 research into the history and development of the U
 K gas industry.</p>\n \n <p>His evidence-based ins
 ights and detailed understanding of past transitio
 ns provide valuable context for current and future
  strategic decision-making in the gas sector.</p>\
 n \n <p>Russell is also Chairman of the Institutio
 n of Gas Engineers and Managers History Panel.</p>
