The proliferation of renewable energy sources has an impact on buried pipelines. Large scale photovoltaic (PV) systems, for example, can cause unacceptable levels of interference to buried pipelines and increase the risk of accelerated external corrosion.
The presentation explains, in a non-technical way, how this happens and what can be done to control the risk to the integrity of the pipeline.
This subject is covered in the new ISO standard 21857. No prior electrical, electrochemical or cathodic knowledge is assumed, and the presentation will be of assistance to operators, designers, integrity managers, and planners.
