Climate change, changing public attitudes, government and regulatory policy have all led in recent years to utility and pipeline companies re-thinking their priorities and setting more stringent goals for carbon emission reductions; in their own business operations and their supply chains, as well as in terms of providing a more sustainable product to their customers. 

Most have stated an intent to move steadily towards carbon neutrality in their construction as well as other operational activities; National Grid has said its construction supply chain will be carbon net zero by 2026. 

But given most of the pipeline infrastructure is made from steel, ductile iron (water industry), and PE, with significant concrete, building and pavement materials thrown into the mix, along with the energy and water requirements of major projects, is that achievable? If so, how? What are the implications for our customers and for the many companies who supply products and services into these sectors? How do procurement teams incentivise suppliers to help achieve these aims?

The event will provide a great opportunity to hear from speakers with different perspectives on the subject, as well as an opportunity to network with colleagues working across the industry and see first-hand some of the latest innovations.
