In The Pipeline - Aug 2019

AS YOUR NEW CHAIR, it's a real pleasure to introduce a packed issue of In the Pipeline. If you want a sense of the health of the Guild and the sheer volume of activities across the UK, it's all here in these 24 packed pages. We held our AGM recently and you'll find a full who's who of the new Board. There's also a short interview with me, where I offer a few thoughts on my plans for the year ahead and reveal a strategy for securing the Guild's relevance well into the future. Our Awards Luncheon is one of the biggest events on the Guild calendar and a showcase of industry innovation and forward thinking. We've featured all the winners in every category, their innovations, and how they reacted to picking up the top plaudits. As you'll no doubt know, the nation recently commemorated the 75th anniversary of D-Day. We thought this would be a great opportunity to look back at the remarkable story of how an ingenious underwater pipeline played a crucial role in the Allies' march across Normandy and beyond. It's a story than can tell us a lot about innovation and collaboration in times of crisis - I hope you enjoy. Norman Howell is interim Guild CEO and finance director and I was inspired to read, in a two-page interview, his commitment to moving P.I.G. forward and helping younger members develop their careers. Finally, our editorial team had to work in two extra pages this issue just to cope with the sheer number of branch reports coming in from you. This is most definitely a good problem to have! Catch up on the latest technical events, kart racing, golf days and more. Enjoy the issue!
