Guest Speaker - Andrew Shimmin

Andrew is a Senior Associate Civil Engineer with over twenty years’ United Kingdom (UK) and international experience in design and delivery of water and sanitation projects from inception to completion. Experience includes feasibility, optioneering, concept design, outline design, detailed design and construction supervision. Specialises in hydraulics/ hydrodynamics, pipeline design, surge analysis, civil design for water and wastewater treatment works, and water and sanitation for sustainable development.

Guest Speaker - Chris Ellery

Chris is a pipeline design engineer who has worked with Mott MacDonald since graduating in 2016, most of his career has been spent working with design & build Contractors on pipeline projects in the UK. He returned from Bangladesh in 2024 after being based there for 3 years - Where he supervised the construction of the DESWS project which aims to construct a 500 ML/d intake, water treatment plant, and transfer pipelines.

Andrew is no stranger to adventure and extreme challenges and at the age of fifteen was already jumping out of planes. Since then, he has skied to both the top and bottom on the world having completed the “Pole Double” of The Geographic North and South Poles”. Then climbing both in the Himalayas and Europe. But it is the remoter and more unknown corners of the planet that most appeal to him and he has untaken a series of exploratory challenges including – The first attempt to climb the Arctic’s highest mountains in winter - The First attempt to climb the four highest volcanoes in the Democratic Republic of Congo – Crossing the hottest desert in the world which is the Lut Desert in Iran via a new route.
