Midland Branch PDN - Sir John Parker Paper Competition

The PDN Competition has been arranged to provide young professionals with the opportunity to deliver a 15-minute presentation on any subject pertaining to the pipeline industry, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session from a panel of judges.

The five finalists will compete to win the Sir John Parker trophy and receive £250, a place in the national final held at The Pipeline Industries Guild Annual Conference on the 12^th June 2025 and see their work publicised in the Guild’s “In the Pipeline” magazine.

The finalists are:

• Alex Lee, Project Supervisor, National Gas – The Impact of Cybersecurity on Gas Pipeline Operations
• Sheevan Gilli, Future Engineer, Cadent – Improving Public Safety with The Vented Surface Covers Initiative
• Maxendeh Magaji, Graduate Construction Engineer, National Gas – Climate Change Adaptation Business Plan Development
• Jason Roberts, Director, HVL Solutions Ltd – Reducing customer impact and carbon savings
• Jesse Smith, Future Engineer, Cadent – Plastic Waste

The panel of judges from the Pipeline Industries Guild and Industry Partners shall award marks based on the following criteria:

• Relevance/potential benefit to the Pipeline Industry
• Originality and professional content of material
• Degree of personal involvement and depth of knowledge demonstrated in specified area
• Quality and enthusiasm of presentation; excitement/engagement and time limits
• Ability to deal with questions
• Presentation delivery and timing

This year’s event will be held at Severn Trent Water, 2 St John's St, Coventry CV1 2LZ.
