Coffey is working with Severn Trent on a project to relocate the final effluent discharge from Toton Sewage Treatment Works to the River Trent in the UK. The project will involve constructing a new large-diameter outfall from Toton STW to the River Trent, including two tunnels under the River Erewash and Railway that are over 12 meters deep.
The work involves transferring the final effluent discharge point from the River Erewash to a new outfall on the River Trent. This complex project has involved tunnelling under the River Erewash and Railway, constructing a new pipe bridge, pumping station and provision of 950m3 of additional storm storage. The scheme has overcome many challenges to date including working on the flood plains, contaminated ground, working adjacent to a SSSI and installing significant temporary works to provide access.
