Call for Papers - Professional Development Network Paper Competition
The Pipeline Industries Guild comprises of membership from across the pipeline industry, regardless of engineering discipline, application, or qualification. The Guild's membership comprises those with interests in pipelines world-wide, transporting hydrocarbon products, chemicals, water, wastewater, and many other substances, both on and offshore.
The Professional Development Network (PDN) of the Guild, looks to promote the opportunities and challenges of working in the pipeline industry and presents an excellent opportunity for entrants to promote themselves, their companies and provide an insight into potential career paths to a new generation of young people. This competition has been arranged to provide continuing professional development (CPD) to both entrants and audience members.
All papers for all regions should be submitted to the email address below, papers will be allocated to the applicable regional PDN branch to be assessed by the relevant regional panel of judges.
The Challenge
- Submit a 250-word synopsis on any subject associated with the pipeline industry.
- Examples include but are not limited to: Waste & Potable Water, Gas, Oil, Health & Safety, the Environment, Logistics & Planning, Engineering Design, Engineering Management.
- Presentations are encouraged from all business functions including academia and do not have to be engineering based.
- Entries will be assessed by a panel of judges from the Branch Committee, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to present at the regional final.
- Each presenter will be required to give a 15-minute presentation on their chosen topic, demonstrating their own personal involvement, to an audience and panel of judges from the Pipeline Industries Guild and Industry Partners. A 5-minute Q&A session will follow each presentation.

Eligibility
Entrants must be between 18 and 35 years of age by the closing date for entries to the competition.
If successful, entrants must be available to present their presentation at their regional branch competition which will be held between Mid-March and the End of April.
The winners of each regional final will then be invited to present at the next National Pipeline Industries Guild Conference in June.
Entrants should also be willing to share details of their presentation in PIG publications and to present their experiences to help promote any future competitions.
Assessment criteria
At all stages marks shall be awarded for the following criteria:
- Relevance/potential benefit to the Pipeline Industry
- Originality and professional content of material
- Degree of personal involvement and depth of knowledge demonstrated in specified area
- Quality and enthusiasm of presentation; excitement/engagement and time limits
- Ability to deal with questions
- Presentation delivery and timing
