The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) is a learned society for all engineers, scientists, technicians, managers and other professionals working in or associated with the gas industry. It is a licensed member of the Engineering Council (EC) for the election of suitably qualified members directly to the UK register of engineers. Founded in 1863, IGEM was granted its Royal Charter in 1929. IGEM publishes a range of widely used technical standards and codes of practice relating to the production, distribution, metering, supply and use of natural gas. IGEM is a founder of the Internationl Gas Union (IGU) and is represented on several of its Committees and Working Groups. IGEM contributes to European standards as well as the maintenance of as industry throughout the world. IGEM's vision is the promotion of engineering science as applied to the Gas Industry; and to improve and elevate the technical knowledge of those engaged in the profession of gas engineering.
